Cool company
Wound up removing the upper fork guard to allow the band, which is very tall, to fully clamp onto the fork tube. I tried clamping the band on the taper above the fork guard, however, the taper was not tall enough to allow the entire band to clamp onto it.
After installing the device as pictured there haven't been any problems and has worked as designed.
