Tire Dimensions
Street tires with 100w have a width of 100 millimeters. They have a 90 aspect ratio and a 19 rim size. This means that when the tires can be fitted to 19-inch wheels and at full inflation, they are 100-millimeters wide, with a height of 90% of the width. Like cars that measure their tires in metric units, motorcycles with a tire size designation in millimeters instead of inches are commonly used for on-road purposes. They will often come with smaller treads that provide less traction but more fuel efficiency.
Tread Patterns
Tread pattern choices for street 100/90-19 tires vary by style and manufacturer. Tires designed for speed tend to have a shorter overall life span due to the use of softer rubbers or composites; in turn, these tires can grip the road with more friction, allowing you to shrink your acceleration times while on your bike. Long-lasting tires will provide less friction, but this can also lead to less traction in cold weather. Deep-grooved, water-channeling treads help provide you with traction during heavy rain. All-around tires offer the best of traction during inclement weather as well as durability.
Common Applications
Motorcycle owners look for street 100/90-19 tires on sale for a number of purposes. Tires of this size range are often produced for highway use, city driving and some dual-sport applications. While limited trail use on well-groomed trails may be possible, unless the tires have an off-road designation, it is not recommended. Specialty tires like racing tires will be marked as such.
